Water Wells

Since ancient times, the people of Tharparkar have relied on wells as their primary source of clean drinking water. However, over time, boring has become more common in most tehsils, with submersible pumps installed to extract water. Despite this shift, wells are still quite common in the tehsils of Dahli and Nagarparkar. In Nagarparkar, wells are built with a much larger diameter, while in the villages of Dahli, the wells tend to be smaller. These wells are long-lasting and are not owned by any single individual, but are considered a shared property of the village community.
In Dahli, water is typically drawn from the wells using buckets, with donkeys and camels often employed for transportation. However, in some cases, groups of men or women manually draw water using their hands.
Since 2015, Dua Foundation has constructed over 700 wells in various remote villages of Dahli and Nagarparkar. These wells have been built by people in memory of their loved ones, or as a form of ongoing charity (Sadaqah-e- Jariyah).
