In some areas of the tehsils of Kaloi and Diplo in Tharparkar, the underground water level is relatively high, with water accessible at depths of 50 to 100 feet. To extract this water, small hand pumps made of pipes are installed, which are locally manufactured in Sindh. These hand pumps are very cost-effective and are widely used not only in Tharparkar but also in many other districts of Sindh. Dua Foundation has installed over 1200 hand pumps in Tharparkar, Badin, Thatta, Sujawal, Umerkot, Mirpurkhas, Jacobabad, and the Cholistan Desert of Punjab.
